About the Name "OAKLEAF POTTERY"

oaktree

To the rear of the property where I grew up as a boy there stands a massive oak tree -- to this day.  I have always admired the power and strength of the oak tree. Since a potter friend of mine has a name similar to mine I named this pottery "Oakleaf Pottery" with that particular oak tree in mind.

In addition, the Prophet Isaiah called the redeemed of the Lord "oaks of righteousness." I like to think the work of my hands may offer a gift that is enjoyed by others similar to the oak tree whose leaves shade and bless those around it.

The image of oak tree is found in the following text:

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 61/3

(The rest of the text)
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
   and release for the prisoners,

to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of the vengeance of our God,

to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion --
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
   instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
   instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair. Isaiah 61/1-3
